Mission

AcropolisofAthens.gr is a good-will, non-profit initiative that aims to promote culture and education, and the protection of cultural and natural heritage with an emphasis on the value of local heritage. The vision is an honest, peaceful, and just world in which local heritage is respected and everyone has an equal opportunity to evolve with it.

Extending from it original design, one of the objectives is to help reunite all of the parts of the Acropolis, its sculptures and architectural members, in a complete, meaningful set in Athens. It is envisaged that this gesture will inspire more people to appreciate and restore monuments physically and conceptually, as a means of fostering education and unity in the human society. One of the key messages is that heritage is not about ownership or prestige, but about developing our perspectives of culture and empowering people through education.

The story in brief

AcropolisofAthens.gr was originally launched in 2004 to raise awareness about the reunification of the Acropolis Sculptures. Today, it is a popular portal, also on social media, covering a range of topics about heritage, with the aim to promote culture and education. On the basis of culture being an intrinsic part of human nature, AcropolisofAthens.gr has extended beyond the Acropolis looking at various and intersecting layers of cultural and natural heritage, museums, communities, and ethics.
