The largest hub of air travel in southeastern Europe, Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" is most likely to serve direct flights from a major city near you. Once there, either jump on a metro or suburban train, take a bus or rent a car to get to the heart of Athens.

The metro station for the Acropolis (access to the Acropolis hill and the Acropolis Museum) is the Acropoli station on the red line. You can plan your journey using the Athens metro map. You can find more information about the operation of the metro at the official Athens metro web site.

As soon as you find yourself in the city of Athens, you will realise that the Parthenon is one of the many golden destinations waiting for you! It is hard to consolidate in one page information about a city that is as vibrant and rich in culture as Athens. To make the most of your trip, we recommend that you buy a tour guide book or search the web. A good start is the official City of Athens web site.

If you like hot weather and bright sunshine, make sure you come to see the Parthenon in the summer. For cooler temperatures, consider early spring or late autumn, although there is nothing more inspiring than seeing the monument under the bright sun of Attica! You can check the temperature in Athens (county of Attiki) at the Hellenic National Meteorological Service web site.

Where to stay in Athens? The easiest way to arrange your accomodation is to contact your local holiday dealer or look it up on the web. Ask for a room near the historic centre, although the majority of areas are now served by the efficient public transport network.

Greece is in the euro zone, so if your country's currency is euro, you don't need to worry about foreign exchange. If you come from America, you can easily remember that 1 euro is roughly one and a half dollars. To organise your trip, you might find a currency converter handy.

Wherever you travel from, coming to the Acropolis of Athens will undoubtedly be one of your unforgettable journeys - in history and what has shaped the entire Western civilisation.
